爱我别走

Oct. 30:   Carlisle

After a quite intense exam for four introduction courses, we five guys began the tour to Carlisle, a small city not far from Scotland. We would take train to the city. I was very excited as I had not tooken a trip by train for more than ten years. I still remember that I was still a primary school student when I took train out the last time.

We boarded the train at about 7o’clock.At that time, it was still dark. After stepping into the cabin, we surprisingly found that the interior of the train was quite luxurious. And there was no men in the cabin except our five. We all highly praised the luxury of the Virgin train. After 30 minutes, when we were enjoying our trip ,a personnel came to tell us that we were in the first-class cabin ,but the seats which we had ordered were common-class. That meant there were two ways in front of us: Stay and pay 15 more pounds, or transfer to common cabins. Undoubtedly ,we chose the second one. The common cabin was quite worse than the first-class one .Anyway ,we had luckily enjoyed first-class treatment for half a hour.

The 150 years old railway station of Carlisle was much larger than the one of Lancaster. After we got to the railway station, our first destination was the Carlisle Cathedral.It was still raining outside, but the bad weather did not decrease our enthusiasm .

When I entered the Carlisle Cathedral, someone was playing pipe organ. All the hall was full of the fantastic music, bringing us a very pure and mysterious feeling. We took lots of photoes there ,and at the same time, we tried to be quiet and cautious because we did not want to interrupt the sanctity of the Cathedral at all. If you stayed there at that time ,you would truly feel the power and strength of religion .

We found a MacDonalds for lunch. The same taste but not the same price. Food there was much more expensive than the one in China. (For example ,a pound for a bottle of coca cola)

The next destination was Carlisle castle. The Carlisle castle was one of ancient monuments and historic buildings in the care of the English Heritage. There were many military equipments and facilities left in the castle, because Carlisle was a very important frontier city in the English history .It was built for defending England from the attack of Scots about 900 years before. It was also the place where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned and executed eventually by Elizabeth. Maybe the castle has seen many troublous times in the English history. I am not familiar with English history so nothing more to be introduced here.

Ending this interesting tour, we took train back. Tired, hungry, sleepy ………

收到introduction exams 的成绩，还可以。有几点感受， 英国大学考试与中国考试的不同

1英国大学50分算及格，70分优秀。

2考前不划重点，上到哪考到哪。

3拿高分很难，去年一个系120人，只有几个人优秀，即70分。

4出题比较灵活，讲求实际应用。

Nov.11:Fireworks

Nov.4th was an important day for Lancaster citizens. There was a fireworks spectacular near castle. Fireworks spectacular is held every year, commemorating the arrival in Lancaster of a rebel army in Nov. 1745.

After shopping in the Sansibury , we began to search for a place to have sth. to eat . At last ,we chose a Chinese restaurant ,named 竹园.Food in it was quite expensive and much dearer that night because that day was weekend. After waiting for 15 minutes,we welcomed the most delicious dinner since I came to UK. Dishes there were not very delicate but quite palatable. I enjoyed a wonderful dinner. Hope to come back someday, maybe on Spring Festival.

We started to walk to castle after having the memorable dinner. So many people came to the castle to enjoy the spectacular that I nearly could not move any more in the crowd. It was my first time to see so many English getting together. Usually, after 9 o’clock PM, there would be almost no one in the streets of Lancaster.

The fireworks spectacular began with great music. It lasted for about half a hour.Not bad show!

I felt a little gloomy after the fireworks spectacular, beginning to miss my parents and recollect past things......................
